2012 ALMS Prototype Title Hinges on Winning in Atlanta

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On October - 12 - 2012

After nine events and thousands of miles throughout North America, championships in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón come down to one last race. The 15th annual Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda stands to be a winner-take-all affair in the ALMS’ P1 and P2 classes. It makes the 1,000-mile/10-hour classic at Road Atlanta that much more critical for a quartet of teams: Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, Dyson Racing, Level 5 Motorsports and Conquest Endurance.

High Speeds & High Stakes Welcome the ALMS to VIR

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On September - 11 - 2012

A new venue for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón looks to play a huge role in determining the 2012 ALMS champions. The VIR 240 is the first race at Virginia International Raceway for America’s premier sports car racing championship. The four-hour race – hence the ‘240’ – pays two additional points per position, a critical factor with all but two titles up for grabs.

Virginia International Raceway opened for business in August, 1957, hosting an SCCA race that attracted such stars of the sport as Carroll Shelby, Carl Haas, Bob Holbert, Augie Pabst, Bob Grossman, Don Yenko, Dr. Dick Thompson, Walt Hansgen and Bruce Jennings. Shelby, who would later go on to worldwide fame by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 and creating the iconic Cobra sports cars in the early 1960s, won that first feature race in a Maserati 450S.

Level 5 Reigns In Control on the Streets of Baltimore

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On September - 4 - 2012

Level 5 Motorsports captured the overall victory in an always intriguing, at times bizarre American Le Mans Series’ Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT. Christophe Bouchut and team principal Scott Tucker led the team’s 1-2 finish with its pair of HPD ARX-03bs, ahead of Luis Diaz and Ricardo Gonzalez in the sister car.

Corvette Racing encountered heavy holiday traffic on the streets of Baltimore today, finishing second and sixth in the Baltimore Sports Car Challenge. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner labored long and hard on the Labor Day weekend to bring the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R across the finish line second, 2.2 seconds behind the winning No. 17 Porsche of Bryan Sellers and Wolf Henzler. That result increased their lead in the GT driver championship as their closest rivals finished down the order.
