2008 Wayne Enterprises Applied Sciences “Tumbler”

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On July - 20 - 2012

Our theme of the week has been American kit-cars, but we decided to deviate a bit this Friday…because there was just no way we could pass on showing a little love for Christopher Nolan’s awesome batmobile; the “Tumbler.”

This new incarnation of the Batmobile was first proposed by Christopher Nolan after he built a proof-of-concept model design out of Play-Doh - a model which the director admitted looked “very very crude, more like a croissant than a car”. Nathan Crowley, one of the production designers for Batman Begins, then started the process of designing the Tumbler for the film by modeling a ruggedly sporty vehicle based on that shape. One of the parts that Crowley used to create the vehicle was the nose cone of a P-38 Lightning model to serve as the chassis for the car’s jet engine. Six models of the Tumbler were built to 1:12 scale in the course of four months. Following the scale model creation, a crew of over 30 people, including Crowley and engineers Chris Culvert and Andy Smith, carved a full-size replica of the vehicle out of a large block of Styrofoam, which was a process that lasted two months.  | Click to Enlarge – 1920×1200

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On May - 22 - 2012

One of the greatest things about having recently driven in Europe was getting some first hand experience with a wide array of enthusiast supported cars that we never get a chance to see here in the US. Of those cars, one of the most popular tuner platforms we found in the UK was the Opel Astra VXR…

The Opel Astra VXR is powered by an updated version of the 2.0 L turbo ecotec engine (Z20 LEH) producing 237bhp and 236 lb·ft of torque. Click to Enlarge - 1920x1200

Posted by Robert.Maddrey On May - 3 - 2012

Today we take a moment to reflect on a great 1-2 victory for the Nissan GTR in 2008′s Super GT race at the Suzuka Circuit.

Designed as a Honda test track in 1962 by John Hugenholtz, Suzuka is one of few circuits in the world to have a "figure 8" layout, with the back straight passing over the front section by means of an overpass. (Click to Enlarge - 1920x1200)

CCX is an abbreviation for Competition Coupé X, the X commemorating the 10th anniversary (X being the Roman numeralfor ten) of the completion and test drive of the first CC vehicle in 1996.
