Sure you’ve heard Katy Perry’s hit song E.T. before, you’ve probably even heard the mainstream radio-aired remix which featured rapper Kanye West…but have you heard Johnson Somerset & John Monkman’s entrancing nearly 10 minute ambient masterpiece? No, well you should and here it is.

A former Christian artist, Katy Perry rebranded herself as a larger-than-life pop star and rose to prominence during the summer of 2008. Before she topped the charts with songs like “I Kissed a Girl” and “California Gurls,” though, she spent the better part of a decade recording music under a different name; Katy Hudson, as she billed herself on her 2001 gospel album. | Click to Enlarge

Ambient beats at it’s finest, this impressive remix by veterans Somerset and Monkman delivers the reigning quirky queen of pop’s smash hit E.T. in a completely new and fresh way, even now nearly three years after Katy first began the “Teenage Dream” auditory sojourn. Additionally the track serves as an affirmation of sorts that, even in the current era of “Dubstep” the Ambient art form is still alive and well.

Recording sessions for Perry’s album Teenage Dream wrapped up in early 2010, followed shortly by Perry scoring her second number one single with “California Gurls,” released that May. Nearly 3 years later with 5+ #1 hits it’s little wonder how our favorite quirky-hot songstress has become the biggest name in pop music today. | Click to Enlarge
