Having only happened upon Jestine’s quite by accident while wandering the historic streets of old Charleston it was a lucky find!
Charming and quaint the restaurant has that old south grace and warmth that welcomes you in and serves up affordable and delectable southern classics of equal portion as tastes and excellence. Quaint and cozy the savory aroma of soul-food permeates the dining room as it wafts among the clambering patrons ensconced in the sights and smells of the rich bounty set before them. It’s not a big restaurant but the staff and time-worn decorations make you feel at home and at ease, the sort of hospitality so often lauded about in tales of the Old South.
The food is simple…sort of. The tastes are rich and the portions large. Of note the meatloaf was
heavenly and the expertly brined and breaded fried chicken was the stuff of southern legend…but not to be outdone by the rich and sumptuous home-made Coca-Cola cake. Whether on a vacation in the area or just stopping in on a road-trip, should you find yourself in Charleston, SC a trip to Jestine’s Kitchen should be in order.
